It was a gray morning when 坏猫咪 woke up. He crawled from under the porch and looked at the sky. There were lots of clouds and he could smell the dampness of coming rain mixed in with the salty breeze from the nearby ocean. He looked back at his old house and made a decision.
“If they don’t want 我 , 我不’t want them either.” And 坏猫咪 trotted down the street.
“Shhh,” said the boy. “You might scare him.”
He held out his hand for 坏猫咪 to smell. 坏猫咪 sniffed his hand for a moment and then rubbed up against it. He could tell that the boy was kind.
“I don’t know. We have to ask 妈妈 and Dad,” said the boy.
坏猫咪 guessed it was the 妈妈.
she asked.
“She asked 我 艾玛！”瑞安说，然后补充说，“He is very friendly.”
The 妈妈 looked at 坏猫咪, and then at Ryan.
“If he’很友好，也许他属于某人，” she said.
“Yay!” said Emma.
“Shhh,” said Ryan as he picked up 坏猫咪. For the first time in a long time, perhaps ever, 坏猫咪 felt wanted.
That night, the 妈妈 and Ryan worked together to make a flyer with 坏猫咪’的照片。
“I hope he doesn’t have a home,” said Emma.
“He does have a home —和我们在一起，无论如何” said Ryan.
But then something happened that upset Emma. She and the 妈妈 were in the kitchen and the 妈妈 was helping her make a sandwich. Emma was holding a slice of turkey and 坏猫咪 couldn’不能自救。
“What a bad kitty!” said Emma as 坏猫咪 ran away with the turkey.
“He’s not a bad kitty,” said the 妈妈. “He just doesn’没有更好的了解。
坏猫咪 learned that when he tried to take food, he was not allowed to have any, but when he waited, he got a treat.
“我知道他是一只好猫，” said Ryan.
Another day, 坏猫咪 needed to stretch his paws, so he began to claw the sofa.
“No, no, no — bad kitty!” said the Dad, who looked like a grown-up version of Ryan. 坏猫咪 got scared at his stern voice and ran under the bed.
“But we don’甚至不知道他是否属于某人，” said the Dad.
“I am sure he doesn’t belong to anyone.”
